What you eat can significantly affect the health and aging of your skin

An unhealthy diet can damage your metabolism and hurt organs, such as your heart and liver.

And what you eat also impacts another organ: your SKIN.

Your skin is your largest organ, and acts as a protective covering from the external environment. It is easily damaged by stress, sun, smoking, poor organ function, diet and the chemicals in your personal care products.

What you eat can significantly affect the health and aging of your skin.

WHAT YOU EAT (& DRINK) MATTERS:

  • Fatty fish (salmon, herring, mackerel sardines)

  • Avocados (1/4-1/2 a day)

  • Walnuts (best nut source for Omega 3’s)

  • Flax oil or extra virgin oils (even just two TBS in your salad dressing!)

  • Fibre to help with elimination (supporting your body’s natural detox function is super important!)

  • Sweet potatoes (high in vitamin A)

  • WATER (~ 8 cups a day)

LIFESTYLE CHANGES:

  • Quit smoking (wrinkles, free radical damage)

  • WATER (did I mention this already??)

  • Natural products (skin absorbs what you put on it!)

  • Saunas (sweating cleanses impurities)

  • Dry brushing (see my earlier post on this)

  • Good quality sleep

  • Overall digestive and liver support

  • Avoid allergens

HELPFUL SUPPLEMENTS:

  • Amino acids (make sure you have enough protein)

  • A, B, C vitamins

  • Beta Carotene

  • Biotin (strengthen skin, hair, nails)

  • Calcium

  • Cod Liver Oil (EFA, Omega 3’s)

  • Selenium (anti-oxidant also found in Brazil nuts!)

💡 Finally, a little “cheat sheet” on some common eye skin conditions, and their possible causes:

  • Dark circles under eyes: stress/fatigue

  • Puffiness: water imbalance/retaining water, PMS

  • Wrinkled bags: colon congestion (try a detox/cleanse)

  • Puffy, dark circles: allergies

👍🏼 Anyone who knows me knows that I have a crazy morning and evening skin care regime! However, I also know that all of that “outer” care is useless if I am not taking care of my “insides” too. Drink plenty of water, gets lots of sleep, and eat well-balanced meals.

And in case someone hasn’t told you this today: you are beautiful – inside and out! 😘
